Who's opinion is right? Who's opinion is wrong?
Mine came from the bible. So, not to say yours is wrong, but mine is simply just from the bible.
First time I read that statement, I myself had not seen anything that was wrong. In fact, isn't that supposed to be the truth? I mean, if the bible isn't right, why am I following it so closely?
Rob Bell in his book Velvet Elvis says that it's wrong.
Wrong? Wait a minute, the bible wrong? He playfully put questions like this back and fourth, but had really asked it out of seriousness.
You see, the bible is really an open interpretation. In the olden days, when each village probable had only one bible, they came together to read and discuss to come up with the best conclusion or about a passage. No single person came up with their own interpretation out of reading solitary. It wasn't a solo effort.
So, quite well put when it says, who are we to tell someone that what they believe in is wrong, when what we believe in sometimes, is also something we had deciphered on our own from the bible? Just because we QUOTE the bible, or a part of it, doesn't make the statement right.
Don't get me wrong, or don't get Rob Bell wrong. The bible is ultimately VERY important. As much potential it has to give answers, we can misconstrue the information, and teach the wrong things.
Jeremiah 17:
9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.
Who can understand it?

It's interesting that this was the conclusion:
As much potential it has to give answers, we can misconstrue the information, and teach the wrong things.
So there is an acknowledgment that misinterpretation may occur and result in WRONG impartation.
And just before that, there is a question:
Who are we to tell someone that what they believe in is wrong, when what we believe in sometimes,is also something we had deciphered on our own from the bible?
I don't think that we're to suggest that we cannot point out discrepancies just because different interpretations are made.
Also, the first part of the question (who are we to tell someone that what they believe in is wrong) was already answered in the following paragraph (we can misconstrue the information, and teach the wrong things).
Wrong teachings are possible. And so, correction is essential.
As for the second part of the question, 'something we had deciphered on our own from the bible'.
I guess this is quite the problem.
In fact, different denominations find it difficult to agree on some matters because there are different doctrines etc.
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16
Without misinterpreting this, and focusing on "ALL scripture is inspired by God"....
It is for us to ask the Lord to reveal His word to us. Not for us to decipher it on our own...
The Holy Spirit will convict each individual differently.
p.s. and of course the author of confusion has caused much confusion among people. I shall not get into that now....
-i love arsenal-
i can only guess who this is.
hmmm...
i perhaps should add,
the bible, is a tool essentially written by men, translated by men, and made conclusions by men, it can be heavily misconstrued..... and that's why all the more important , WE have to ask from God, and not decipher it for ourselves.
correction by whom? correction by ppl?
that's once again the mistake...
what' i'm trying to say, WE make it wrong
WE take bits and pieces out of it, and say that's essentially right, but never take into account the whole bible
and we never ask form God
that's essentially what i was trying to say
MANY men have made mistakes by interpreting the bible their own way.... we have to learn to depend on God on His msg.
as per what u wrote earlier ;)
